THE SALVATION ARMY: 7% DONATION SHORTFALL TO IMPACT COMMUNITY
Sheboygan, Wis., - Two weeks after Christmas and The Sheboygan Salvation Army has not made its Christmas Campaign goal; 7% of the goal remains. It leaves a shortfall of $33,849.
Funding from the Christmas Campaign is vital. It yields one-third of their overall budget. Donations come from private and corporate donors in the community. The overall campaign goal is $483,000. To date, the Army took in $113,743 from mail appeals, $156,898 from general donations, and $178,509 from kettle collections.
“This shortfall may mean program cuts and possible layoffs,” said Salvation Army’s Business Administrator Jeanne Kliejunas.
Donations go to support The Salvation Army homeless shelter, people in need of utility or rental assistance, a food pantry, budgeting classes, youth programs, along with many other very important programs that help lead people toward independence.
“This is serious. We are seeing more and more clients and the potential for less services. It is possible to make this goal,” said Kliejunas, “Other Wisconsin cities reached their goal and we need to do the same.”
Development Director Heidi Cain agrees, “The situation is serious and although the community was very generous, the needs of the community are great. We are seeing many new people coming in for assistance who have never had to ask for social service assistance. Funding is down and services are up.”
The Salvation Army Christmas Campaign will continue until the end of January. Contributions to the Salvation Army can be made on-line at www.sasheboygan.org, or mailed to The Salvation Army, PO Box 1207, Sheboygan, Wisconsin 53082-1207.
